Hockey Equipment Checklist
For classes requiring full hockey equipment, make sure you have these items.
Hockey Supporters:
This supporter features an elastic waistband with pouch for plastic cup worn, and is worn to protect the groin.
Hockey Elbow Pads:
When properly fitted, these pads protect the elbow, forearm and lower bicep/triceps form contact that may occur during the sport of hockey.
Hockey Shields/Cages:
This traditional mask is made from metal bars and is used to protect the face.
Hockey Shields/Cage:
This full- or half-face shield is made of shatterproof clear plastic and is used to protect the face and eyes.
Hockey Helmets:
The hockey helmet protects the head from contact that may occur during the sport of hockey and must be worn at all times.
Hockey Gloves:
When properly fitted, hockey gloves protect the hand, fingers, wrist, and forearm (except short gloves) from slashes and other contact.
Hockey Sticks:
When the player is holding the stick, whichever hand is at the bottom of the shaft will determine whether a player needs a right or left stick.
Goal Sticks:
If the goal stick is held in the right hand, you will need a left stick. If the goal stick is held in the left hand, you will need a right stick.
Garter Belts:
This elastic belt wraps around the waist and provides attachments to hold up hockey socks.
Hockey Socks:
These large socks that fit over the top of the shin pad and keep it protected from the outside elements, while also helping hold the pad in place.
Jerseys:
Jerseys keep the upper body equipment from becoming exposed to outside elements and keep the equipment in place.
Mouth Guard:
This U-shaped, formfitting plastic is placed in the mouth to protect the teeth and reduce risk of concussions. Some models attach to the face mask.
Hockey Shin Pads:
This hard plastic, foam padding and cloth piece of equipment is worn to protect the shins and knees from contact.
Hockey Pants:
Hockey pants have foam padding and hard plastic, contained in a cloth shell, to protect the waist, hips, thighs, and calves.
Hockey Shoulder Pads:
This hard plastic, foam padding and cloth piece of equipment is worn to protect the shoulders, upper frontal chest and upper back from contact. Some models also have attachments for protection of the mid-section and sternm.
Hockey Skates:
Hockey skates feature a leather, nylong and plastic boot with plastic fram and metal blade attached to bottom for ice-skating. Skates are generally 1-1/2 sizes smaller than shoe size.
Skate Guards:
This plastic, rubber, or cloth material is placed over skate blade while not skating to protect blade from dulling and nicking.
